Sean runs engineering and product. He did AI research at Stanford, left the master's program to build, and worked on automation at Databricks and ReMatter. He started Cranston to take the prep, chasing, and cleanup work off accountants' plates.

Cranston is a team of engineers and accountants in San Francisco. We build AI that runs the back office for CPA firms: tax prep, bookkeeping, and the client follow-up in between. Some firms run our software with their own staff; others hand us the work entirely.
One of us builds the AI. The other ran the firm.
Cranston started with the two of us. It's the back office Max wanted when he was doing this work by hand.
Why we built Cranston
Max watched his firm lose its best hours to data entry, chasing clients for documents, and cleaning up offshore handoffs.
None of that work needed a CPA. It needed a system. So we built one: agents that do the prep and the chasing, and leave the judgment calls to a licensed reviewer.
Today Cranston is a team across engineering and accounting: people who have shipped AI systems at places like Databricks and Stanford working with people who have spent their careers closing books. CPA firms run real client work through Cranston every day.
We want firms to take on more clients without taking on more headcount, and to spend their time on the work clients actually pay them for.
